Investing in Core, High-Potential, Timber Markets

RMS’ investment strategy focuses on acquiring forest assets in established global timber markets that are deep and diverse and that have histories of strong performance.

We target large-scale, core investment opportunities in regions with robust timber demand fundamentals – areas with modern and expansive solidwood, paper and packaging facilities that consume significant volumes of various timber products. Such operating environments enable us to optimize the advantages of our integrated business model – allowing us to create and capitalize on economies of scale and to execute innovative timber marketing strategies. This disciplined approach, which also entails practicing intensive forestry and avoiding small-scale, highly dispersed investment opportunities and narrow specialty markets, positions RMS to exert greater influence over the timberland investment value chain.

In addition to acquiring quality forest assets and optimizing the biological and financial potential of their timber resources, RMS also creatively monetizes investors’ underlying real estate values.  This is essential for capturing value when markets place a premium on raw land for uses other than timber production, like recreation, development and conservation.

This holistic, integrated investment strategy is implemented with a high degree of discipline, which characterizes every aspect of RMS’ investment process – from how we source and analyze prospective acquisitions, to how we manage and ultimately liquidate assets. From the forest to the meeting room, RMS also focuses on transparency – sharing information with our investors and making ourselves accessible to provide informed perspectives on what we are doing to manage our investors’ and partners’ timberland assets – as well as how and why.
