  • Job Summary

    Resource Management Service, LLC. (RMS) is a global investment manager with significant expertise in all phases of sustainable forestland investing. Founded and managed by forestry professionals and owned by its employees, RMS is headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, with offices across the U.S. South and Brazil. Currently, RMS manages approximately $5.1 billion of institutional timberland investments across 2.5 million acres.

  • Responsibilities

    The RMS Investment Management (IM) Team is responsible for managing client investment portfolios, providing investment modeling and analysis that support these efforts. The team takes primary ownership over investment strategy and represents the actions RMS undertakes as a property and investment manager to our investment partners. The Investment Management Team is responsible for:

    • Managing investment portfolios to pursue outcomes that are consistent with investment underwriting and client objectives.
    • Communicating performance results to clients and consultants on a periodic basis, in both oral and written form.
    • Developing timberland investment strategies for new and existing client relationships.
    • Monitoring timber and timberland market conditions and identifying the investment management implications of changes in the marketplace.
    • Analyzing internal RMS and 3rd party data to support investment decisions that are consistent with Company strategy.

    The Director, US Investments will lead portfolio management activities for a subset of RMS’ largest US investment positions. In this capacity, they will interact with all functional groups within RMS. The position will have significant client-facing exposure and be expected to represent RMS in a highly professional and competent manner. The position will also be a critical member of the IM team and be expected to support various other IM activities. Primary responsibilities include:

    • Portfolio management: Lead the Company’s flagship open-ended $1 billion comingled Evergreen Fund, including Investor engagement and strategic planning initiatives.
    • Support team success: Contribute to the success of the IM team by leading various initiatives designed to improve managed investment performance and service to investor clients.
    • Investment strategy and management: Identify strategies to improve operational and investment performance. Consume and summarize investor feedback into actionable management strategies. Work cross-functionally to develop action and implementation plans that are consistent with clients financial and non-financial investment objectives.
    • Investor Reporting: Lead the development and delivery of regular and ad-hoc client reporting for several of RMS’s large Separately Managed Account (SMA) relationships. Produce substantive written communication that is easily understood by clients. Ownership of cash flow histories and outlooks for investments, as well as related financial measures.
    • Fund Valuation: Oversee 3rd party asset valuation engagements for U.S. investments, including appraiser selection and approval, and review to ensure timely and sound asset valuations.
    • Portfolio Construction: Work with the acquisitions team and other RMS functional teams to develop and implement an acquisitions strategy for US portfolios.
    • Financial Planning and Analysis and Budgeting: Provide key contributions to asset and portfolio level planning process, including scenario testing, objective analysis and constraints to modeling projects and budgets.
    • Capital Formation: Provide leadership and support to the Company’s strategy to attract new investor capital.

  • Qualifications

    The list below is some of the qualifications that will be considered as candidates are reviewed:

    • 10 years+ of experience in asset management, mergers and acquisitions, or portfolio management.
    • Direct experience in timberland investment is preferred. Candidates with exposure to institutional investment platforms in real estate or other real asset classes will also be considered.
    • Four-year degree with emphasis in natural resources, business, economics or finance.
    • Strong preference for candidates with an advanced degree in business, finance or a Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
    • Willingness to travel in the US and overseas to visit clients and assets (up to 20% travel commitment).
