RMS has acquired, sold, and managed timberland investments for over 65 years. Since becoming an investment advisor in 2004, we have acquired $4.4 billion in timberland, managed as many as 2.8 million acres and sold over $1.04 billion in timberland on behalf of institutional and individual investors. As of 30 June 2016, the firm managed a timberland portfolio with a market value of $4.5 billion for pension funds, endowments, insurance companies, private foundations, fund-of-funds, and family office investors.
We serve a growing group of investors who recognize that timberland is an asset class that requires a patient long-term approach to investing while also satisfying mandates for renewable and sustainable practices. Our investors appreciate our long track record, our alignment of investor-manager interests through employee ownership, and our strong fund governance structure which has been refined over time.
Prior to 2008, RMS focused exclusively on investments in the southern United States, but we recognized the need for geographic diversification and the potential to increase returns by moving into underserved international markets. The company developed an international timberland investment platform and made its initial overseas acquisition in southern Brazil in April 2008. RMS now manages timberland in Australia, Brazil, New Zealand, and China.
RMS focuses exclusively on timberland investing as its core strategy and source of competitive advantage. ”
